Week 3/5/25 Newsletter - Celebrating Women's History Month

Celebrating Women's History Month

Women's History Month is a time to reflect on and celebrate the countless contributions of women throughout history and their ongoing endeavors toward equality and justice. Every March, we honor the women who have shaped our societies with their unwavering determination, resilience, and innovation. This month serves as a commemoration and a reminder of the progress yet to be made in achieving true gender parity.

The South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has witnessed women's integral role in building a thriving community and fostering economic growth. From business leaders to community organizers and trailblazing entrepreneurs, the women of SFLHCC have been instrumental in setting new benchmarks for success and inspiring the next generation of female leaders.

There are so many notable figures in the SFLHCC, like our Chair-Elect, Michelle Febres; our President/CEO, Liliam “Lily” Lopez; our board members, Claudia Puig, Myrna Vaca, and Sandra Ochoa, among so many more ladies whose leadership and commitment to the Hispanic community have been remarkable. As long-time advocates for small businesses and minority-owned enterprises, these ladies have championed economic empowerment and worked tirelessly to ensure that women have a seat at the table. Their efforts have helped break down barriers and opened doors for many aspiring female entrepreneurs in South Florida.

Furthermore, the chamber's Women's Empowerment Luncheon Series has been pivotal in highlighting women's accomplishments and providing a platform for them to share their experiences and insights. Our Hispanic Women’s Society Ladies have contributed so much with their ideas, leadership, and community engagement. Happy Women's History Month!

Community Collaboration with an Inaugural Coastal Cleanup

The South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation recently teamed up with Coastal Wealth, Waste Pro, FPL, and Scouting America to host a coastal cleanup event in Key Biscayne. The event aimed to address the pressing issue of marine pollution and protect the delicate ecosystems along the coastline.

Key Biscayne, renowned for its beautiful beaches and rich marine biodiversity, has seen increasing concern over pollution, mainly due to litter and waste washing up on its shores. Recognizing the urgent need for action, these organizations came together to mobilize volunteers and significantly impact the local environment.

The success of the coastal cleanup serves as a testament to the power of community-driven efforts in addressing environmental issues. It also sets a precedent for future collaboration among local organizations to continue making a tangible impact on the ecosystem of South Florida.

Lily Lopez Attends the Miami-Dade AHEC Board of Directors Meeting

Lily Lopez expressed her enthusiasm as she attended the Miami-Dade AHEC Board of Directors meeting. As a committed advocate for improving healthcare access, Lily was eager to join fellow board members in meaningful discussions to enhance community health outcomes. She expressed her excitement about contributing to the strategic initiatives and collaborating with a team dedicated to positively impacting the Miami-Dade area. SFLHCC's President Liliam M. Lopez at FIU in DC

Last week, the vibrant heart of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce beat stronger as President Liliam M. Lopez took on Washington, D.C., with an inspiring mission in mind. In a city where history and innovation intersect, Lily is championing the next generation by connecting with the students of the Alternative Break Program and influential executive personnel at Florida International University (FIU) in D.C.

An "alternative break program" is a college student initiative where students spend their school break, typically spring break, participating in community service projects at a location away from campus, often focused on a specific social issue, allowing them to learn about different communities and engage in meaningful reflection through hands-on service while developing leadership skills.

Her visit is symbolic and a testament to her unwavering commitment to fostering educational and professional opportunities for the Hispanic community. By engaging with tomorrow's leaders, Lily is planting seeds of inspiration and ambition, demonstrating that dreams can transcend into reality with the proper support.
